Raw Studio
Sustainability and local production is at the heart of Rawstudio's designer Nick Rawcliffe who founded the company in 2004. He keeps his carbon footprint low by making his products in the UK and is sensitive to the environment by using eco - friendly materials in his designs such as sustainable sourced FSC birch. Nicks transformation into an eco warrior, designer and inventor is evident when you look at his educational background. He got his first degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bristol University; he then graduated in Industrial Design Engineering from the Royal College of Art. In his RCA summer break, he worked for a charity in Bangladesh, making wheelchairs with whatever materials were available for disabled children. He then subsequently worked in the Bauhaus in Dessau and in Japan to perfect his trade. Other accolades include being a finalist in the British Council’s Young Creative Entrepreneur Award and winning the Fiat design competition in 2008
His products include the “Exdecks”, a chair made out of reused skateboards, a Coffee Table made from recycled coffee ground, slot chairs and a range of hanging chairs both made from sustainable sourced FSC birch. Those who have experienced the “Hive” (one of his hanging chairs) have described the “sensation as extraordinary. It cradles and encloses you but it does not feel claustrophobic because of the open slats, it makes you feel instantly relaxed and safe.”

Nick is currently working on a number of new products which he hopes to launch later this year.
