Reestore
Reestore’s designer Max McMurdo takes everyday waste objects such as washing machine drums, bath tubs, shopping trolleys, car gearboxes, road cones and even an airplane wing and breathes new life into them. He turns them into remarkable practical pieces of arty furniture which he then names as if they were his children. Just to name a few Alan, John, Annie Roger, Ray, Billy, Gordon, Katherine and many others are all part of the Reestore family. Max’s passion is his creations and his creations should be our joy to behold.
Max is determined to show the world that environmental consideration does not need to compromise the beauty or desirability of eco products. Some people might know Max from the “Dragon’s Den”, both Theo Paphitis and Deborah Meaden invested in Reestore and other people might just know Max as the amazing eco magician that finds innovative ways to reuse our waste which are headed to the landfill. Max tries to avoid traditional eco materials in favour of contemporary finishes and fabrics and as a result his creations are iconic, witty, imaginative and stylish.
Take for example one of his creations “Max”. For many people bathtubs are places for relaxation and a place to be comfortable. Max (the designer) finds another use for discarded bathtubs whilst allowing them to retain their character and charm by turning them into sofas; therefore giving bathtubs a new life in a new home. Max is resourceful and his appreciation for the past lives of the discarded items he uses is indicative throughout is designs.
Max manages to find the inner beauty in the objects he uses and this is what makes his products appealing. Take for example “Silvana”. In her past life she used to be a washing machine drum and was an integral part of someone’s home but now she is unappreciated and heading for the landfill. Max magical re-deigns her to reveals her inner beauty. She is now a charming side table with an internal light which emits a beautiful ambient glow that casts beams of light from her polished stainless steel body. It is not surprising that today she is Reestore's most popular child.
